VOZ DE “RETRATO” E “GARINA DA BANDA” VAI CONTINUAR A ENCANTAR CASAIS E PASSISTAS
O cantor e compositor Nelo Bastos, conhecido pelos sucessos “Garina da Banda” e “Retrato”, faleceu, no domingo, aos 63 anos, de doença prolongada, e voltou a enlutar a música e cultura nacional.
A notícia do falecimento do também jornalista foi recebida com consternação por familiares e colegas. A filha, Sílvia Candala, recorda o pai como uma pessoa de trato fácil que contribuiu para o desenvolvimento da música a nível do país.
“Era o que mais amava na verdade. Quando nos reuníssemos em família, era a maior alegria dele. São as memórias que vamos levar dele”, revelou Sílvia Candala à Rádio Nacional de Angola.
O secretário-geral da UNAC, Diogo Sebastião Quintino, reconheceu que a cultura angolana fica empobrecida, mas que o seu legado vai ficar patente
“Para um homem de cultura deixa sempre uma fissura naquilo que foi ou que é a construção do nosso mosaico cultural. A sua contribuição para a música nacional vai permanecer viva na memória dos amantes da boa música angolana”, falou à RNA.
Por outro lado, o agente cultural, Eliseu Major, fez saber que Nelo Bastos impactou positivamente a música angolana, bem como o jornalismo cultural, como funcionário da Rádio Nacional de Angola.
Da viola de lata à conquista das pistas
Nelo Bastos, em entrevista ao programa “A Nossa Manhã”, da Televisão Pública de Angola, exibido no dia 15 de Março de 2019, recordou o seu percurso artístico.
A música entra na vida de Nelo Bastos, no Sambizanga. Ainda miúdo, acompanhava os grupos carnavalescos e os ensaios dos conjuntos. Mais tarde começou a participar nas matineés infantis a interpretar temas de artistas famosos.
Em 1977, inspirado pelos grandes instrumentistas da música nacional, constrói uma viola de lata, onde aprende os primeiros acordes de forma autodidacta. Nos anos 80, adquiriu a primeira guitarra e começou a participar em concursos para novos valores, como o Explosão Musical da TPA e o Festival Provincial da Canção de Luanda.
Nesta fase, como artista não estava apenas empenhado na música, a poesia fazia também parte do seu processo criativo e foi bem-sucedido em concursos de declamação. Colaborou também no grupo Makaya Teatro da UNTA, como trovador.
