A cantora Mana Yana cresceu rodeada por sons, vozes e ritmos tradicionais. Ainda em criança, integrou o grupo infantil da Igreja Evangélica Congregacional de Angola, no bairro Bomba Alta, na província do Huambo. Desde muito cedo revelou talento e espírito de liderança, assumindo a condução de coros infantis e juvenis. Para ela, a música sempre representou abrigo, inspiração e uma forma de expressar a sua identidade.
Durante a adolescência, passou a fazer parte da Sociedade Média Joice, onde começou a escrever e interpretar canções gospel. Contudo, o seu percurso artístico viria a ganhar novos rumos ao aproximar-se do universo do folclore angolano, área na qual se tornaria uma das vozes dedicadas à preservação das tradições culturais.
Um momento decisivo na carreira da artista ocorreu quando conheceu o músico Justino Handanga. Vizinho no bairro Santa Iria, ele reconheceu o potencial da jovem cantora e ofereceu-lhe a canção “Amolangue”, composta por si, mas entregue como presente para que fosse interpretada por ela. Esse gesto marcou o início de uma caminhada artística que viria a representar um verdadeiro símbolo de resistência cultural.
A estreia nos palcos aconteceu no município do Bailundo, terra natal da cantora. Foi ali que recebeu o nome artístico “Mana Yana”, atribuído pelo promotor cultural Hito Capitalista. Com a interpretação da música “Amolangue”, conquistou imediatamente o público. No dia seguinte, já recebia convites para actuar em festas, casamentos e outros eventos. “A partir dali, não parei mais”, recorda a artista.
Inspirada por referências como Justino Handanga, ViñiViñi e Chinina, Mana Yana assumiu a missão de levar o folclore angolano cada vez mais longe, contribuindo para preservar e divulgar a identidade cultural do país.
